Wike asserts that no one in the PDP can prevent him from joining the APC.
In a recent media briefing, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, articulated his political stance regarding the 2023 presidential election and his relationship with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike’s remarks shed light on his decision not to support the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar, the former PDP presidential candidate.
Wike emphasized that principles of equity and fairness were notably absent within the PDP, leading him to withhold his support for Abubakar. He stated, “I was not going to support your (Atiku) presidency because you’re not fair; there’s no justice, no equity as far as PDP was concerned.” This assertion reflects his firm belief that fairness in political representation is paramount.
Moreover, Wike dispelled rumors regarding his potential defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He clarified that he has not engaged in discussions about joining the APC with President Bola Tinubu, asserting, “I never told anybody that,” and expressing confidence in his autonomy to make political choices without fear.
Emphasizing his commitment to transparency, Wike remarked, “Nigerians know me; I’ll say something I’ll do, and I’ll do.” His statements reveal a resolute approach to his political career, underscoring his unwillingness to compromise on his values for party affiliation.
As Nigeria navigates the complexities of its political landscape, Wike’s candid revelations contribute to the ongoing discourse on party dynamics and the principles that guide electoral support.
