White House Defends NSA Waltz Amid Signal App Controversy.

President Trump has publicly defended National Security Advisor Mike Waltz following revelations that Waltz inadvertently included The Atlantic‘s Editor-in-Chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, in a secure Signal app group discussing sensitive matters. The group, reportedly focused on plans regarding the Houthi conflict in Yemen, also included figures such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance.

Amidst calls for Waltz’s resignation, President Trump told NBC News that Waltz “learned a lesson” and is “a good man.” The President further attributed the misstep to a staff member, claiming a staffer inadvertently had Goldberg’s number accessible. This defense comes despite reports of internal White House criticism of Waltz’s actions. The incident has raised concerns regarding security protocols and information handling within the National Security Council. The long-term repercussions of this breach remain to be seen.
