Trump Reiterates Hard Line on Tariffs, Announces Reciprocal Measures.

President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his commitment to imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, stating unequivocally that no exemptions will be granted. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Mr. Trump announced that reciprocal and sectoral tariffs will be implemented beginning April 2nd.

This announcement follows the initial imposition of a flat 25% tariff on steel and aluminum last month, a move ostensibly designed to bolster the domestic industry. The President indicated these reciprocal duties will be applied to US trading partners and will include additional levies on automobiles, steel, and aluminum.

This unwavering stance signals a potential escalation in the ongoing trade war and suggests a continuation of the “they charge us, we charge them” approach previously articulated by the administration. The long-term economic consequences of these policies remain to be seen.
