Tragic Incident in Anambra State: A Policeman Shoots a Young Man in a Dispute Over ₦100.

In a grievous incident that has sent shockwaves through Anambra State, a policeman assigned to the Otuocha Area Command allegedly shot and killed a young man following a dispute over ₦100 at a checkpoint. This tragic event occurred on 2nd of November, 2024 and has since ignited widespread outrage among local residents.

According to reports, the confrontation escalated unexpectedly when one of the officers fired his weapon, resulting in the fatal injury of the youth. A witness from Aguleri, who has shared a distressing video of the incident, has identified the police squad involved, reportedly led by an officer named Onyebuchi.

The precise nature of the dispute remains ambiguous, with uncertainty surrounding whether it was related to a demand for a ₦100 bribe or a simple miscalculation regarding a previous transaction. Nonetheless, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the shooting.

In an official statement, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, acknowledged awareness of the incident and outlined the immediate actions taken. Inspector Sani Suleiman, the officer implicated in the shooting, has been disarmed and detained pending further investigations and internal disciplinary procedures.

This unfortunate event has galvanized local youths, who have taken to the streets to protest against what they perceive as excessive police brutality. As the community grapples with this tragedy, calls for accountability within the police force are intensifying.
