Tinubu Pays Tribute During Burial of Late Chief of Army Staff at National Cemetery.

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu led the nation in a poignant farewell to the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who was laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja. The solemn ceremony was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, top government officials, senior military officers, and members of the diplomatic corps, all gathered to pay their respects to a distinguished military leader.

In a ceremony marked by deep reverence, President Tinubu, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other dignitaries, laid wreaths in honor of General Lagbaja. His widow, Mariya, also participated, embodying the profound personal loss felt by many.

During his remarks, President Tinubu extolled General Lagbaja’s exemplary career, describing him as a “soldier’s soldier” whose dedication to the nation was unwavering. The President highlighted Lagbaja’s role as a trusted advisor, emphasizing his formidable intellect and commitment to the armed forces. In recognition of his service, the President announced the posthumous conferment of the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) award, which was graciously received by the general’s widow.

President Tinubu reflected on the sorrow of the occasion, acknowledging the unexpected nature of loss. “The hand of God works in its own sovereign way,” he said, encouraging those present to celebrate Lagbaja’s life rather than succumb to grief. He quoted, “the brave never die. Their courage serves a thousand living men,” underscoring the enduring impact of Lagbaja’s legacy.

In his heartfelt tribute, the President extended condolences to the family, recognizing the sacrifices made by General Lagbaja and his loved ones. He urged members of the Armed Forces to honor the late general by recommitting themselves to the principles of patriotism and service to Nigeria.

As the nation mourns the loss of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, his courage, sacrifice, and leadership will forever be remembered, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations in the armed forces.
