The Rearrest of Bobrisky: A Continuing Saga of Allegations and Investigations.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the rearrest of the controversial crossdresser and self-proclaimed transgender, Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye. The arrest occurred on Thursday night as she was reportedly attempting to leave the country, an incident that escalated dramatically when airport officials physically removed her from an airplane.
Following her apprehension, Bobrisky took to her Instagram account, posting a plea for assistance and claiming mistreatment during her detention, coupled with images of injuries sustained on her arm. The EFCC, through its spokesperson Dele Oyewale, clarified that Bobrisky was taken into custody to provide assistance in an ongoing investigation pertaining to bribery allegations against the agency.
Oyewale stated, “He made an allegation against our officers. And we have asked him to come and assist our investigators in the case. And he has refused to come.” The spokesperson emphasized the necessity for Bobrisky to substantiate the allegations made against the EFCC, highlighting the principle that “he who alleges must prove.”
This latest development follows closely on the heels of Bobrisky’s previous arrest at the Seme border, where she allegedly attempted to flee the country. The reasons for her initial release, including any potential bail arrangements, remain unclear. Notably, a committee from the House of Representatives is currently investigating allegations of bribery involving Bobrisky, the EFCC, and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), stemming from a leaked audio where she purportedly confessed to paying EFCC officials to have money laundering charges dropped against her.
Further complicating matters, an investigative panel has concluded that there is no substantiated evidence to support Bobrisky’s claims regarding her living conditions during her earlier six-month imprisonment period. The saga, marked by legal entanglements, public notoriety, and ongoing investigations, continues to draw significant media attention and public interest. The outcome of these allegations and inquiries remains to be seen, as the situation continues to evolve.
