The Lagos State House of Assembly has firmly rejected recent allegations made by the Lagos State Anti-Corruption Coalition claiming that a contract worth N17 billion was awarded for the construction of the Assembly’s gate. Mr. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, issued a statement on Thursday describing the petition as unfounded and politically motivated.

Ogundipe clarified that the gate project in question was completed over three years ago and emphasized that there are no current projects related to this matter. He underscored the Assembly’s adherence to established procurement processes, stating that all contracts are processed transparently in accordance with state regulations.

Highlighting the absurdity of the allegations, Ogundipe remarked, “For anyone to assert that a gate could cost N17 billion is preposterous; even if it were made of gold, such an amount would be unimaginable.” He expressed concern over the credibility of a coalition that appears to rely on hearsay rather than substantiated facts.

The chairman also rebuffed the notion that the Assembly’s silence on previous allegations implied consent or guilt. Rather, he emphasized the institution’s commitment to transparency and excellence. Ogundipe further noted that it is vital for citizens to recognize the integrity of the House and its leadership in advancing the ideals of governance in Lagos State.

In conclusion, the Lagos State House of Assembly remains devoted to serving its constituents while upholding the highest standards of accountability and transparency.
