In a significant reaffirmation of its dedication to societal welfare, the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Olufemi Oluyede, announced the Nigerian Army’s commitment to collaborating with communities nationwide to enhance infrastructural development and address local needs. This declaration was made during the commissioning of the newly remodelled Olugbo Primary Health Care Center and Staff Quarters located in the Odeda local government area of Ogun State.

Represented by Major General Baba Umaru Yahaya, Oluyede underscored the importance of the initiative, which aims to support communities served by senior officers of the Nigerian Army. He emphasized that this scheme is designed not to compete with governmental responsibilities but rather to complement the efforts of the government and various organizations in improving the quality of life for citizens.

Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, who oversaw the project under the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation, highlighted the impact of the healthcare facility, which is set to serve over 62 communities and more than 8,000 residents. The initiative addresses a critical gap in healthcare access, as many pregnant women and children previously traveled over 40 kilometers to receive medical services.

In a call for further support, Adeyinka appealed to the state Ministry of Health for an increase in the center’s staffing to optimize healthcare delivery. Additionally, State House Assembly Speaker Oludaisi Elemide and local government Chairman Folashade Adeyemo praised the Army’s efforts, affirming that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, and the remodelled facility represents a vital step towards achieving this goal for all citizens.

This initiative exemplifies the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to community engagement and development, fostering a spirit of cooperation that seeks to enhance the overall well-being of the nation.
