The 2024 Men’s Junior Epee Fencing World Cup is set to be held in Lagos.
As the world of fencing prepares for the highly anticipated 2024 Men’s Junior Epee Fencing World Cup, excitement is palpable, especially in Nigeria. Scheduled to take place on December 14-15, this prestigious event will debut in Lagos, marking a significant milestone as Nigeria becomes the first Sub-Saharan African nation to host a fencing World Cup.
The tournament is set to attract elite teams from across the globe, with confirmed participation from notable fencing powerhouses such as the United States, Hong Kong, and Egypt. Additionally, a noteworthy contingent from Africa, including delegations from Ghana, Senegal, Greece, Angola, Togo, and the Benin Republic, alongside the host nation, will enrich the competition.
The choice of Charterhouse Lagos as the host venue underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing international sporting events and highlights Nigeria’s burgeoning status in the global sports landscape. This event will not only spotlight Nigeria’s organizational capabilities—having successfully hosted the African Championships in 2018 and 2020—but it will also serve to inspire and develop local fencing talent.
Adeyinka Samuel, President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, expressed his gratitude for being selected to host this prestigious event, recognizing its importance for Nigeria’s global recognition. “Hosting the World Cup is a remarkable opportunity for any country in Africa, and we are proud to be the first in Sub-Saharan Africa to do so,” Samuel stated during a press conference at the Lagos Fencing Club.
The World Cup represents an important opportunity for Nigerian fencers to compete at the highest level, simultaneously earning essential points for future qualifications, including the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. With both local and international talent converging in Lagos, the event promises to be a thrilling showcase of skill, determination, and sportsmanship.
As Nigeria prepares to welcome the world to its shores, the 2024 Men’s Junior Epee Fencing World Cup stands as a testament to the nation’s growing influence within the realm of international sports and the bright future of fencing across the African continent.
