Significant Earthquake Strikes Tonga.

A magnitude 7 earthquake struck Tonga on Sunday, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The seismic event occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, approximately 100 kilometers northeast of the main island, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Following the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) issued a tsunami alert, warning of potentially hazardous waves within a 300-kilometer radius of the epicenter.

Tonga, a Polynesian nation comprised of 171 islands with a population exceeding 100,000, predominantly residing on the main island, now faces potential secondary effects.

At the time of this report, no immediate reports of damage have been received. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
