Reviving Agriculture: A Call to Action from the Chief Imam of Ogbomosho Land.

In a recent Ramadan lecture held in Imasayi, Ogun State, Dr. Yinus Ayilara, the Chief Imam of Ogbomosho Land, passionately advocated for a return to farming as a viable solution to Nigeria’s prevailing economic hardship and food insecurity. In his address, themed “Navigating Food Insecurity In Nigeria: Economic And Sustainable Solutions During Ramadan,” Sheikh Ayilara emphasized the importance of agricultural engagement, particularly among the youth, as a means to benefit both individuals and their communities.

Dr. Ayilara lamented the paradox of Nigeria’s abundant mineral resources coexisting alongside widespread poverty, attributing the nation’s challenges to both human sinfulness and negligence within leadership. He called upon Nigerians to seek divine forgiveness and adhere to the ethical guidelines set forth by Allah, emphasizing that societal decay stems from moral lapses and corruption.

Encouraging citizens to embrace farming, the Chief Imam remarked, “To solve this problem, every one of us should go back to the farm.” He articulated a vision where cultivating crops not only alleviates personal hunger but also nourishes the surrounding community. Furthermore, he urged the government to facilitate this agricultural resurgence by creating an environment conducive to farming and mechanization, arguing that subsistence farming alone falls short in addressing the scale of the food crisis.

In support of this initiative, Oba Lukman Kuoye, the Olu of Imasayi Kingdom, reminded attendees of the importance of compassion and community engagement while emphasizing the positive impacts individuals can have in their localities.
