President Tinubu postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting in Honor of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the postponement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, originally scheduled for today. This decision, communicated through a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, comes as a mark of respect for the late Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night.
The statement emphasized the President’s role as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, reflecting on General Lagbaja’s service, which spanned from June 19, 2023, until his untimely death on November 5, 2024. In a gesture of mourning, President Tinubu has also directed that flags be flown at half-mast across the nation for seven days.
The new date for the Federal Executive Council meeting will be announced in due time. This postponement underscores the somber occasion and honors the significant contributions of Lt. General Lagbaja to the nation.
