NAFDAC Clarifies Stance on Sachet Water Ban in Lagos State.
In a recent development, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has officially denied allegations regarding the enforcement of a ban on sachet water, colloquially referred to as ‘pure water,’ in Lagos State. This clarification comes in the wake of a statement from the Lagos State government refuting claims of such a prohibition.
Reports had emerged following a viral video showcasing individuals purportedly enforcing a ban on sachet water, which prompted a response from the Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. The Minister noted that the individuals in the video were NAFDAC staff conducting their lawful duties aimed at eliminating unregistered and potentially harmful products from the market to protect public health.
However, NAFDAC swiftly took to its official account on the platform X to assert that the individuals depicted in the video were not part of their agency. The statement emphasized, “The videos circulating of individuals engaging in enforcement activities are NOT NAFDAC officials or part of our Investigation & Enforcement team.” Furthermore, NAFDAC condemned the actions showcased in the video, stating that halting vehicles to destroy products is unprofessional and inconsistent with their Standard Operating Procedures.
This incident highlights the importance of clear communication and adherence to regulatory protocols in maintaining public trust and safety. As the discourse surrounding sachet water regulation continues, NAFDAC’s commitment to professionalism and public health remains paramount.
