Makogi Kingdom Faces Imminent Crisis: Traditional Ruler Appeals for Government Intervention.
Oba Babatunde Sonola, the Olu of Makogi Kingdom, has issued a fervent plea to the Ogun State government, urging immediate intervention to quell escalating tensions arising from alleged land grabbing activities within his community. During a recent media address, Oba Sonola detailed incidents involving armed individuals, purportedly operating under the guise of hoodlums and cultists, who are disrupting the peace and stability of Makogi.
The traditional ruler specifically cited an instance where over 200 individuals allegedly invaded a farmland, firing weapons and destroying crops. He attributed this unrest to illegal land claims in Ibokoland. Despite reporting these incidents to local law enforcement, Oba Sonola laments the lack of substantive action. A petition has also been submitted to the Commissioner of Police, seeking urgent intervention to prevent potential violence.
Furthermore, Oba Sonola implicated individuals allegedly connected to the Articulated Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), specifically naming Sule Oloriodo and Alale, purportedly the Personal Assistant to AMORAN’s state chairman, Taofeek Sokoya (“Danku”). While Sokoya has vehemently denied any involvement, the Olu of Makogi has called on the state government to direct AMORAN leadership to restrain their members and prevent further escalation. He has also appealed directly to Governor Dapo Abiodun to deploy security forces and halt the activities of the alleged land grabbers, averting a potential bloodbath in the Makogi community.
