Kano State Government Allocates N2.5 Billion for Mass Weddings in 2025.
In a significant move aimed at enhancing social welfare, the Kano State Government has earmarked N2.5 billion for the organization of quarterly mass weddings across its 44 local government areas in 2025. This initiative was announced by the State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, during the presentation of the state’s recently approved budget.
The allocation for the mass wedding initiative is part of a broader N91.32 billion budget dedicated to governance and service delivery, which encompasses various social programs designed to improve the quality of life for residents. In addition to the mass weddings, the budget includes N1 billion for Ramadan feeding programs and N955 million for comprehensive surveys related to manpower statistics and the enumeration of out-of-school children.
Further highlighting the budget’s commitment to infrastructure and community support, Shanono indicated that N1.049 billion will be allocated for essential services, including the acquisition of printing machines, rehabilitation of the general water system, and enhancement of the Government Printing Press library. Other key allocations include N267.6 million for infrastructure development and support for Islamic Da’wah programs, as well as N589 million for security research and empowerment initiatives.
The approved 2025 budget totals N719.75 billion, reflecting a substantial 31% increase from the N549.16 billion initially proposed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. This budget comprises N262.67 billion for recurrent expenditure and N457.08 billion for capital projects, marking a notable 65% increase compared to the previous year.
Through these allocations, the Kano State Government demonstrates its commitment to social welfare and community development, aiming to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for its citizens.
