Kaduna-Kano Rail Project Secures New Financing.
On March 14th, the Senate confirmed the China Development Bank (CDB) as the new financier for the Kaduna-Kano rail modernization project. This development follows the withdrawal of the China Exim Bank (CEB) in 2020, which cited pandemic-related challenges.
The announcement, relayed via a statement from Presidential Aide Dada Olusegun, signals a significant step forward for the 203-kilometre standard-gauge railway. This project aims to enhance connectivity between Kano and Abuja, stimulating economic growth along its trajectory.
President Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the Ibadan-Abuja-Kaduna-Kano railway, building upon the railway expansion efforts of his predecessor. The secured CDB financing marks a crucial milestone in achieving this objective.
