Jubilation as Nigerian Governor Declares Public Holiday, Gives Reason

Oyo State, Ibadan – Governor  of Oyo State has proclaimed that August 20 will be a day off for civil servants to commemorate Isese Day in 2024. This was conveyed by the governor’s media adviser, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 14, as reported by The Punch. The announcement was included in a circular from the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, according to Daily Independent. Phinadon Magazine highlighted that Governor Makinde has designated August 20 each year as Isese Day. In the circular, he urged all traditional worshippers and citizens to use this occasion to pray for peace, unity, and stability in the state and the nation.

What is Isese Day? Isese Day is observed in some states to celebrate and promote the indigenous Yoruba culture and traditions, aiding in the preservation of Yoruba heritage. Phinadon Magazine also noted that some governors declare a day off to reaffirm their support for traditional institutions in their states.
