Imo State Police Intensify Efforts to Rescue Kidnapped Priest.

The Imo State Police Command has initiated a focused operation to secure the release of Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu, kidnapped on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, along Ejemekwuru Road in Oguta Local Government Area. Rev. Fr. Ubaechu, Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Izombe, was abducted en route to the Priests’ Annual Retreat.

DSP Henry Okoye, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed the launch of an “intelligence-driven operation” aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. The Command urges the public to contribute to the investigation by providing any pertinent information to the nearest police station or by contacting the emergency numbers provided: 08034773600 and 08158024755.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, through Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbarah, Archdiocesan Chancellor and Secretary, has formally acknowledged the abduction and appealed to the faithful and all individuals of goodwill to offer prayers for the safe and prompt return of Rev. Fr. Ubaechu.
