Health Warning: NAFDAC Issues Recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on Deodorant.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has recently issued a health warning regarding the recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant (50ml). This action follows an alert from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products.
NAFDAC has identified batch number 93529610 as posing significant health risks to consumers. The agency’s notice, released on October 31, highlighted the presence of 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde— a chemical that is banned in cosmetic products due to its potential to harm reproductive health and affect unborn children adversely. Furthermore, this substance can cause skin irritation and burns.
“The recalled Nivea product is a serious concern, especially in African climates where consumers rely on effective deodorants,” NAFDAC stated. The affected product, manufactured in Germany, carries the bar code number 42299882.
In light of these findings, NAFDAC advises importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise utmost caution to prevent the sale and use of this deodorant. The agency urges individuals in possession of the affected batch to discontinue its use immediately and submit any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
NAFDAC also encourages healthcare professionals and consumers to report any adverse events related to regulated products through its official channels, including its pharmacovigilance email and E-reporting platforms. Such actions are vital in ensuring consumer safety and promoting public awareness.
