Gov Uzodinma – “The government is not providing free transportation for Imo natives in Lagos”.
Oguwike Nwachukwu, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Imo State Governor, has categorically denied circulating reports claiming that the state government has arranged free bus transportation for Imo citizens residing in Lagos who wish to return home for the festive season.
In a recent press statement, Nwachukwu clarified that such information did not originate from his office and urged the public to disregard it entirely. He described the reports as a “criminal attempt to defraud members of the public,” highlighting the dangers of unscrupulous individuals exploiting the festive season to deceive home-bound Imo residents.
According to Nwachukwu, these fraudsters conjured a fabricated press statement claiming to offer free transportation to various locations in Imo State, including Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu, on specified dates in late December and early January. The fraudulent organization even provided false contact numbers for potential victims, further exacerbating the potential for deception.
Nwachukwu urged caution, emphasizing that the statement is entirely false and deceptive. He reiterated that no such travel arrangements have been made by the government, and any involvement with the misleading claim could result in financial loss.
Imo citizens in Lagos or elsewhere who are considering travel for the holiday season are strongly advised to disregard these fraudulent claims and remain vigilant against such scams. The government remains committed to keeping the public informed with genuine initiatives and encourages citizens to verify any information before taking action.
