In a significant development, the Gombe State Government and the state university branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have successfully negotiated an agreement, concluding weeks of strike action that had disrupted academic activities.

The strike, declared on September 11, 2024, was a total, comprehensive, and indefinite cessation of work due to several unresolved demands put forth by the union. However, following intensive discussions, the state government has approved a substantial allocation of N947 million during an executive council meeting chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya. This funding is designated to address staff promotions and ensure the payment of earned academic allowances.

With this resolution in place, academic activities at the state university are expected to resume within a few days, as preparations for reopening have already commenced.

Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, speaking on behalf of the Governor, expressed optimism that this agreement, formalized through signed documents, would enhance cooperation and ensure a stable environment for teaching and learning at the state-owned institution. This collaboration is poised to foster an uninterrupted academic atmosphere, benefiting both students and faculty alike.
