It is with deep sorrow that we report the passing of Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Muhammadu Jega, the mother of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega. Hajiya Jega succumbed to a brief illness on the night of August 16 in Abuja.

According to a family source cited by Leadership, the funeral prayer will take place at the National Mosque in Abuja on Saturday at 1:30 PM. Following the prayers, she will be laid to rest at Gudu Cemetery in Abuja.

Hajiya Jega is survived by prominent children, including renowned journalist and syndicated newspaper columnist Malam Mahmud Jega and Alhaji Abbas Jega, a former Executive Director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

Professor Attahiru Jega, who previously served as the vice-chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, has been actively engaged in various initiatives, including his recent appointment as co-chairman of a committee focused on enhancing agricultural productivity in Nigeria. The committee aims to identify and develop new opportunities for farmers, herders, and distributors within the livestock-farming value chain.

The legacy of Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Muhammadu Jega will undoubtedly endure through her children and their contributions to society. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Jega family during this difficult time.
