Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has endorsed the cancellation of the annual Sallah Durbar, citing paramount concerns for peace and security within Kano State. Speaking at an Iftar dinner, the Emir emphasized that citizen safety superseded the historical significance of the UNESCO-recognized cultural tradition.

The decision, made in conjunction with security advisories indicating potential threats, underscores the Emir’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of Kano residents. He articulated that peace is fundamental for societal advancement and development, aligning with the suspension of all Durbar-related activities.

Government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, and religious leaders, such as the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, have lauded the Emir’s leadership and wisdom in prioritizing public safety over cultural festivities.
