Authorities have established a team to oversee personnel at checkpoints in Imo.
On December 28, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, took a significant step to enhance public safety during the festive season. In a bid to evaluate and monitor the conduct of police personnel at various checkpoints across the state, he established a dedicated team led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police. This initiative follows a comprehensive operational assessment of key security points throughout Imo State, ensuring that law enforcement maintains a high standard of service during a critical time of year.
According to a press statement from the Imo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the commissioner’s focus is primarily on officers tasked with stop-and-search and traffic control duties. The evaluation aims to ensure compliance with the ethical standards set forth by the Nigeria Police Force, thereby safeguarding public confidence in law enforcement.
In a proactive measure, a mobile patrol team, supervised by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP X-Squad, has been deployed to work in conjunction with other security agencies. This team will conduct continuous patrols to ensure that police personnel adhere to professional conduct and are free from corrupt practices such as extortion and incivility towards the public.
Commissioner Aboki emphasized the importance of professionalism, respect, and courtesy in all interactions with citizens. He has made it clear that any form of unprofessional behavior, particularly extortion, will not be tolerated under his command.
To further reinforce public safety, the Commissioner has reviewed the overall security arrangements in collaboration with other agencies, ensuring strategic deployment of personnel throughout the holiday period. Residents are encouraged to play a proactive role in this initiative by reporting any suspicious activities or misconduct by police personnel through designated hotlines.
This initiative underscores a commitment to maintaining law and order in Imo State while fostering a culture of accountability among law enforcement officials. As the festive season unfolds, the community can take solace in the efforts being made to uphold their safety and well-being.
