In a significant development, Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been arrested at the Seme border between Nigeria and the Benin Republic. This incident occurred during routine passport checks at midnight on October 21, as confirmed by an immigration source.

According to reports from Premium Times, Bobrisky was detained following the discovery of irregularities related to his passport. An immigration officer noted that Bobrisky had given his passport to another individual for stamping, which led to his identification and subsequent request to disembark from the vehicle.

Currently, Bobrisky has been transferred to the Lagos zone of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Ikeja. His arrest comes amid an ongoing investigation involving the House of Representatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), focusing on allegations of bribery.

In light of these developments, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has assured the public that the findings of the investigative panel concerning Bobrisky and the NCoS will be thoroughly addressed. He emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that all implicated officers would face appropriate disciplinary actions. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the necessity of reforms within the Nigerian Correctional Service to uphold its foundational standards.

As this situation unfolds, it highlights the ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s immigration and correctional systems, underscoring the need for continuous reform and oversight.
