A Vision for Power: Davido’s Father Commitment to Nigeria’s Energy Future
During the Seventh Day Adventist General Conference Annual Council held on October 15, 2024, Adedeji Adeleke, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, articulated a visionary blueprint for Nigeria’s energy sector. His announcement of a groundbreaking 1,250MW thermal power plant, which promises to become the largest of its kind in the nation, signals significant progress towards energy sustainability in Nigeria.
Adeleke’s journey to this monumental project has not been without challenges. Reflecting on his experience in securing the environmental permit, he recounted encounters with “difficult government officials,” one of whom ominously suggested that the project would never “see the light of day.” Undeterred, the billionaire industrialist turned to prayer, seeking divine guidance and resolve to rebut such discouragement.
His firm, Pacific Energy, has forged strategic partnerships with Chinese engineering companies, facilitating the design and construction of this ambitious power initiative. Notably, during a speech at the 9th graduation ceremony of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun State, he previously highlighted the project’s local impact, revealing it generated employment for over 1,000 individuals from a nearby village in Ondo State.
Despite facing setbacks, including a theft that resulted in the loss of turbine components worth about $5 million, Adeleke reports that the project is now nearing completion. The commitment of both financial resources, amounting to $2 billion, and significant investments in infrastructure speaks volumes about his dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s energy landscape.
As Adedeji Adeleke’s efforts come to fruition, they embody a beacon of hope for sustainable development in West-Central Africa, demonstrating the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
