A New Chapter for Farouk Lawan After Prison Release
Former House of Representatives member Farouk Lawan has embarked on a fresh chapter in his life following his release from Kuje Correctional Facility. Expressing profound gratitude, Lawan stated, “Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah,” acknowledging the pivotal turning point this moment represents for him.
Lawan, who previously chaired the Advocacy Committee on the fuel subsidy regime, became embroiled in a controversy involving oil magnate Femi Otedola. Lawan accused Otedola of soliciting a $3 million bribe, while Otedola countered with allegations that Lawan accepted a $500,000 bribe from him. In 2021, Lawan was convicted and sentenced for this offense, with a five-year term upheld by a unanimous decision from a five-member panel of the Supreme Court.
With his release on Tuesday, Lawan reflected on his experiences, attributing his strength and guidance throughout this challenging period to his faith. As he reintegrates into society, Lawan’s statement reveals his intent to embrace this new chapter with gratitude and resolve.
